About Bontle Rest Camp Marakele National Park SANParks

About Bontle Rest Camp Marakele National Park SANParks

The Marakele National Park in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains, as its Tswana name suggests, has become a "place of sanctuary" for an impressive variety of wildlife due to its location in the transitional zone between the dry western and moister eastern regions of South Africa. Contrasting majestic mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys characterise the park. It's no coincidence that bontle means "beautiful" in Setswana. This pleasant rest camp consists of 36 camp sites with power points, arranged into three clusters with one communal ablution block per cluster.

we were competing with ants for space. i wish ant traps can be used. you put food in the table it gets covered by ants. we didn't want to kill them but there must be a way for them not to be in our blankets or fridge and food

Whats great: The magnificent bushveld and scenery, and the swimming pool during the heat of the day. Friendly staff and camp cleanliness and safety.Improvements: perhaps a communal camping fridge. More information on wildlife on the Bontle side of the park, plans for the expansion of the park and an understanding why you go through 2 sections.

We suggest better streamlining of safari tours: Perhaps an sms to each person confirming the trip is on/off, and requesting their confirmation/cancellation. This could avoid unnecessary petrol and time wastage.More road signs regarding access and speeds on the roads in Bonthle Park are suggested for the public's safety.

The friendly helpful staff and the swimming pool was a nice bonus at Bontle Camp. We enjoyed the visits of the kudu, warthogs, ostriches and the naughty monkeys at our camp. We will definitely be back.
