Gariep Dam

Situated between Bloemfontein and Colesberg, the Gariep Dam, also known as Lake !Gariep, is an amazing stopover on the long haul between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Along with a few good nature reserves, there is a mind-boggling range of land-based activities and watersports on offer. It’s worth spending a few days to explore this peaceful oasis in the Karoo.

Families are spoilt for choice with loads of popular things to do including sunset cruises, swimming, tennis, golf, trampolines, bowls, mini golf, sailing, power boating, canoeing, skiing and angling. And there’s even Walk the Wall, an interesting tour through the Gariep Dam wall and down to the bedrock – an incredible engineering achievement.
