Aloe Ridge Hotel & Game Reserve is situated just 40 km from Johannesburg on a remnant of the indigenous bushveld. Game viewing trips from open safari vehicles deliver wonderfully close encounters with hippo, buffalo, rhino, giraffe, ostrich, zebra, eland, gemsbok, kudu and black wildebeest.
Glimpses of rare Nyala are fairly commonplace, while waterbuck, blesbuck, red hartebeest and impala are often seen. Birdwatchers will be kept reaching for their binoculars to try and tick off the 230 bird species.
Mountain bikers can tackle a moderate 3 km single-track circuit through indigenous vegetation along the Crocodile River. Impressive views of the craggy Zwartkop Mountain rising from the river and dense stands of aloes can be seen along this route.
