About Fairy Knowe Hotel

The Award Winning Fairy Knowe Hotel is situated on the banks of the Touw River in the Wilderness National Park Lake District.

This ecologically important wetland system in the Garden Route has received the well deserved designation as a Ramsar Site. Direct access from the Hotel to one of the 18 remaining indigenous forests in the world either by nature trail or river. Here the vegetation can be seen in its natural environment where trees are marked for easy identification.

There is also an 800 year old Yellow wood Big Tree nearby. Almost a third of the 280 bird species have been recorded on the premises with the exotic Knysna Loerie a daily visitor.

We also have an indigenous Tree Trail on the Hotel property. Step out of your Riverside room where you can enjoy freshwater fishing on your doorstep. Other recreational activities include the fun of boating, padelo's canoeing, and mountain biking and endless un-crowded beaches.

Nearby there are World class golf courses, also squash, bowls and paragliding. Opportunities also exist for seasonal land based whale watching. The Hotel is ideally situated to explore the whole area. A launch trip to the Knysna Heads will add to the day's excitement, not forgetting to sample the famous Knysna Oysters.

There is also the Brewery, which offers tours and tastings. Then take on the world famous Cango Caves and the Ostrich and Crocodile Farms of Oudtshoorn, only an hour's drive over the historic Outeniqua Pass which is one of the 4 passes route over the Outeniqua Mountains.

There is also wine tasting on the Estates of the Karoo town of Calitsdorp. Definitely something for everyone. Rates subject to change without notice.

We were extremely disappointed with the establishment as well as the amount we paid per night. A further comprehensive email with photos to follow. I have rated everything with a one star which I think is overrated, except location.

Lovely old hotel, in a secluded spot. Good value, good food, good service with lots of amenities making it a family friendly hotel.

Being our 4th time there, it was the worst. Though our son enjoyed it.

One of the least demanding walks in the Wilderness area, the 5 km Brownhooded Kingfisher Trail follows the meandering course of the Duiwe River. Lush river woodlands line the riverbanks and the path crosses the river frequently. Take care when...
