Important Information

Thank you very much for your booking. Hope you are looking forward to your holiday in Yzerfontein.
A few things before you arrive:
Pre -rrival and keys:
• Karen Schräder at Yzerfontein Accommodation atcs as our agent in Yzerfontein and Marlo will take you to the house, unlock and make sure that everything is to your liking. Please phone Marlo a day beforehand to arrange where you will meet each other and at what time.
• Please take note of the due dates and bank details for final payment and send us a proof of payment
• Please try to arrive before sunset. The entrance to the house can be quite dark and difficult to negotiate. If you do expect to arrive in the dark, please bring a good torch, preferably better than just your cell phone.

A few domestic issues:
• We supply bedding (duvet’s and pillows). There are enough extra blankets in the house if it gets cold.
• There are two double beds and four single beds divided between three bedrooms.
• The kitchen is well equipped with most utensils you will need. There are a large fridge/freezer, a toaster, kettle, stove with oven and a microwave. There are also a dishwasher and, for those who intend to stay longer, a washing machine.
• Usually there is a small supply of Sunlight Liquid and soap for the dishwasher. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that it will be enough for the duration of your stay. The Spar, however, is open seven days a week, so it is not necessary to bring anything along.
• There is a television in the house with a DVD-player and DStv. Due to the corrosive sea climate, we sometimes experience unexpected problems with DStv. Although we do everything in our power to keep things in order, we cannot guarantee DStv-reception for the duration of your stay.
• Cell phone reception in Yzerfontein is good, but the house itself lies in a dead spot with very patchy reception. Most people on holiday regard this as a bonus, but it can be unfortunate if you expect an urgent call. If it is important for you to have 24/7 uninterrupted cell phone reception, rather cancel your booking.
• There are inside and outside barbeque areas with grids and braai tongs. Please bring your own firewood or buy it in Yzerfontein.
• The house has two lock-up garages but at the moment we do not suggest that you use it as we are planning some upgrades on the mechanisms. We can mention that cars or boats standing on the off-street parking area is fine for the duration of your stay.
General:
• Remember comfortable shoes and/or bicycles.
• There is a dart board in the house. Bring your own darts.
• There is a music box with Bluetooth connection, and you can play music from an iPod or MP3-player.

A Few ‘Yzerfontein-things’:
• Yzerfontein is a quiet West Coast holiday resort – traditionally the Christmas holiday resort of Swartland wheat farmers. These days it forms part of the Swartland municipality with Malmesbury as the principal town.
• The town has a petrol station, a good Spar which is open seven days a week and a couple of good restaurants. Note that the local liquor store does not open on Sundays. There is an automatic teller machine for cash withdrawals.
• For fresh meat you can try the very good Darling Butchery in Darling.
• The best place to get frozen snoek and other seafood for a braai is at the fisheries shop in Park Street. Park Street is the first street to your right as you enter the town from the R27. (Just before the 4-way stop). Turn right, the shop is about 100 metres down the road on your lefthand side.
• The stoep of our home is also good place from where to keep an eye on Dassen Island. When the fully laden boats are on their way back from the island, head for the harbour to watch the boats come in. Fishermen are not allowed to sell fish at the harbour. If you want to buy, follow the boats to the boat wash area outside town (on the right-hand side if you head towards the R27). Here you can negotiate with individual fishermen or buy from the Cape Town hawkers who congregate here.
• The entrance to the West Coast National Park is less than 20km from Yzerfontein. A drive to Geelbek or Preekstoel Rots in the park is highly recommended. Take your bathing costumes as the water in the Langebaan-lagoon is much warmer than the Yzerfontein water.
• The West Coast Fossil Park near Langebaan is also worth a visit – especially for the young archaeologists and palaeontologists in the family. The tour includes a visit to the archaeological diggings.
• South of the house towards Cape Town, about a kilometre’s walk down the beach, you will find a board walk area built over an ancient shell midden where the earliest inhabitants of Yzerfontein shelled and cooked their mussels and other seafood. Well worth a walk down there if you are interested in archaeology and ancient history. There is also an old archaeology diggings on the road towards the harbour, just before the harbour gate on your left where the earliest Yzerfontein inhabitants probably lived.
• Evita se Peron, Pieter-Dirk Uys’s restaurant and theatre complex in Darling never disappoints. I hope these answered most of your questions. If there is anything else, please contact me or Karen directly.
